The water, wildlife and wilderness experiences of Moremi Game Reserve, Khwai Concession and the Okavango Delta make this safari very special.
Maun is the gateway to the Okavango Delta and a focal area for visiting Northern Botswana. You will enjoy a luxury boutique hotel experience at Gray’s Eden Sanctuary located on the Thamalakane River which flows out of the Okavango Delta.
The Khwai Concession has become legendary for its prolific predator activity due to the abundance of plains game depending on the Khwai River and providing frequent predator-prey interactions.
Moremi Game Reserve
is one of the richest wildlife areas in Africa including abundant birdlife and a diversity of trees and plants. Located 2 hours north of Maun, it covers an area of nearly 5,000 sq. kms and forms the eastern tongue of the Okavango Delta, combining diverse aquatic and savanna habitats and offering the visitor a truly magnificent wildlife experience. These habitats include river channels, swamps, seasonal floodplains, islands, lagoons, aquatic vegetation, beautiful tall riparian woodlands, grassland, savanna woodlands and sandveld.
The Okavango Delta, known as the Jewel of the Kalahari, is a treasure trove of spectacular landscapes, a mosaic of aquatic and dry land habitats where an abundance of wildlife can be seen. It is the largest inland delta in the world with permanent swamps in the north and floodplains in the south that start filling up from the end of July.
After a night in Maun, take a charter flight to the Khwai Concession where you will spend 3 nights at Mashaba Camp beautifully located on the Khwai River overlooking Moremi Game Reserve.
Then a charter flight to Xaxanaxa in Moremi Game Reserve where you will spend 3 nights at Camp Xaxanaxa enjoying one of the most beautiful and game-rich wildife sanctuaries in Africa.
The pristine wilderness, waterways and wildlife will enchant you.
At the end of your safari you will be flown back to Maun on another charter flight. From here you can fly to Johannesburg and onward to your home country.

Itinerary

DAY 1 

GRAY’S EDEN SANCTUARY, MAUN, BOTSWANA
Fisherman’s Cottage – Bed & Breakfast

On arrival at Maun Airport you will be met and transferred to Gray’s Eden Sanctuary, beautifully located on the Thamalakane River that flows out of the Okavango Delta and through Maun.
You are booked into a Fisherman’s Cottage on a Bed & Breakfast basis. Here you will find a tranquil atmosphere that is unique to Northern Botswana.
The Fisherman’s Cottages are well-positioned for privacy and from their elevated position, each are privileged with spectacular views of the Thamalakane River and the abundant wildlife including hippos, crocodiles and the occasional elephant stopping to drink.
The on-site restaurant, The Eden Kitchen, serves delicious meals from an ever changing menu.
A spectacular pool built directly into the cliff face draws you into the element of water, expansive panoramas from the property’s high-level vantage point convey the element of air, and sitting under the stars, by a warming, crackling riverside firepit, listening to the sounds of Africa, connects you to the fire element.

DAYS 2 – 5

MASHABA CAMP, KHWAI CONCESSION
Luxury Safari Tent – Full Board

This morning after breakfast you will be transferred back to Maun Airport for your charter flight to Khwai where you will be met by your guide from Mashaba Camp who will transfer you to the lodge.
Machaba Camp is a traditional style camp nestling in the game-rich Khwai area. The Khwai Concession is a 35 000 hectare reserve located in the northeastern section of the world-famous Okavango Delta and it shares its westerly border with the Moremi Game Reserve. The camp offers privacy, spectacular river views and excellent food ­– enveloped in a layer of warm hospitality.
Your accommodation is in an Ensuite Luxury Safari Tent with facilities that include a spacious bathroom with a double vanity basin and shower, an outside shower, a patio deck and electrical lights, lamps and fans.
Facilities in the camp include a swimming pool, bar, dining area, library and spa. Camp electricity is a hybrid of solar energy and backup generator.
Activities with highly trained guides include morning, afternoon and night game drives, walking safaris, seasonal mokoro safaris, birding safaris and cultural village visits.
The Khwai Concession is a meeting point of iconic ecosystems and is home to some of Botswana’s largest concentrations of wildlife. Situated between the eastern fan of the Okavango Delta and bordering Moremi Game Reserve, this region flourishes with its unique mix of landscapes.This diverse landscape features leadwood and fig tree forests, expansive floodplains, winding waterways, and open grasslands, complete with the Khwai River, which flows right in front of the lodge.
The concession is a key corridor, guiding animals between the Okavango Delta and Moremi Game Reserve, offering exceptional wildlife viewing, including big game such as elephants, buffalo, lions, leopards, and wild dogs.

DAYS 5 – 8

CAMP XAXANAXA, MOREMI GAME RESERVE
Luxury Ensuite Meru Tent Full Board

Today you have a charter flight to Xaxanaxa in Moremi Game Reserve. Here you will be met by your guide from Camp Xaxanaxa who will transfer you to the lodge.
Camp Xaxanaxa is situated on the banks of the Khwai River on the Xakanaxa Lagoon in the heart of Moremi Game  Reserve, an area well known for its spectacular game-viewing opportunities.
Your accommodation is in an expansive Ensuite Luxury Meru Safari Tent with a spacious bathroom and a private deck overlooking the Xaxanaxa Lagoon. Situated around the fringe of the lagoon, every tent has a private viewing deck with comfortable loungers. Camp Xakanaxa is one of the few camps in Botswana which still offers the essence of a classic tented camp.
In camp, a relaxed and friendly atmosphere together with personalised and caring service evokes a feeling of coming home. The stylish main buildings extend over the Khwai River and are set on raised platforms to maximise the views over the surrounding lagoons and islands. The elegant lounge and dining rooms, built of local timber, reed and thatch, feature a small library, expansive sundeck, plunge pool and sala with day bed. The fire-deck extends over the Khwai River and creates an enchanting environment in which to relax after dinner. There is also a larger pool with elevated sun deck in the expansive grounds.
Activities include morning and afternoon game drives throughout the many different ecosystems that the Moremi Game Reserve has to offer or the possibility to explore the Xakanaxa Lagoon and its surrounding channels by boat. This blend of activities allows for access to incredible landscapes, impressive wildlife as well as the opportunity to enjoy the picturesque waters of the Okavango Delta.
Your guide will introduce you to a whole new world of wildlife; watch a leopard stretched out lazily in the branches of a mopane tree, herds of elephant grazing under a canopy of green or a pride of lions camouflaged in the long grass. Moremi Game Reserve’s incredible wetlands support a vast number of antelope, including impala, kudu and waterbuck. Birdlife is prolific and the majestic Fish Eagle and vivid Malachite Kingfisher are frequently seen and even the rare Pel’s Fishing Owl makes an occasional appearance, to the delight of guides and guests alike.
Sitting around the campfire at night is really exciting as you may hear lions roaring, or jackals and hyenas. You may see animals at night too. Your guide will see to all your needs.
Moremi Game Reserve is situated in the eastern part of the Okavango Delta, on the south-western border of the Chobe National Park, and covers almost one-third of the Okavango Delta.
With such a wide variety of vegetation comes a diverse spectrum of wildlife. Huge herds of Impala and Tsessebe are found in the area, while in the dry season large herds of Buffalo, Wildebeest, Elephant and Zebra flock into the reserve from the Kalahari in search of food and water. The rare Sitatunga and Lechwe antelope live in the papyrus banks of the waterways. Lions, Cheetahs and packs of Wild Dogs hunt in the open grassland. The reserve is home to over 400 species of birds, including the African Fish Eagle, the Crested Crane and the Sacred Ibis. This vast variety of mammal, bird, insect, plant, fish and reptile species have successfully adapted to the swamp conditions. Moremi Game Reserve is a wilderness paradise, with great game viewing throughout the year.

DAY 8

END OF SAFARI

Today you will be transferred by charter flight back to Maun Airport in time to check in for your outbound flight.
