This is certainly one of the wildest and most exciting wildlife reserves in Southern Africa. Mana Pools is a World Heritage Site covering 2,196 sq.kms and is located in northern Zimbabwe on the Zambezi River. It is named after a series of long pools on the alluvial plains which are the remnants of a previous course of the Zambezi where animals congregate to drink.
The Zambezi valley is rich in game, along the river, on the plains and in the woodlands of this diverse area. The birdlife is equally diverse and abundant.
Guided canoe trips are a recommended activity here, especially in the late afternoon when animals come down to drink at the river’s edge. Other activities on offer include guided walks, wilderness trails, lion tracking and fishing.
There are 5 self-catering Lodges and a campsite with communal ablutions in the park. There are also 2 completely wild camping sites without any facilities and which are only accessible with 4WD vehicles.
