Kwazulu Natal Game and Nature Reserves

Kwazulu Natal Parks include a range of great game parks, wetlands, mountains and coastal reserves.

Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve covers an area of 960 sq. kms in the heart of Zululand and has all the big plains game and predators for thrilling wildlife experiences.

Nearby is Mkuze Game Reserve, 400 sq. kms in size with plenty of big game but no lions and has a great diversity of beautiful habitats.

Ithala Game Reserve is located in the northern reaches of Kwazulu Natal and has a range of habitats that include mountains and plains. It is 300 sq. kms in size and most of the big game can be seen except lion.

Isimangaliso Wetlands Park is a World Heritage Site declared for its diversity of aquatic habitats and the importance of preserving these fragile ecosystems. It borders on the town of St. Lucia along the northern coast of Kwazulu Natal. The Park covers an area of 3,320 sq. kms, has 3 major lake systems, 8 interlinking ecosystems, swamp forests and amongst the highest coastal dunes in the world. Big game has been introduced.

Ndumo Game Reserve is one of the most beautiful parks in Kwazulu Natal and is located in the northeast part of the province. It is just over 100 sq. kms in extent with a diversity of habitats and abundant birdlife.

The rich savannas of Kwazulu Natal are ideal for big game and wildlife experiences and many private game reserves abound such as Phinda, Thula Thula, Nambithi, Zululand Rhino Reserve, Mkuze Falls and Amakhosi.
