The port city of Pemba is situated on the south western tip of a peninsula in Pemba Bay in northern Mozambique. A coral reef lies close to the shore providing good diving and Pemba has become a popular tourist destination, also offering a range of accommodation and water sports.

The city is renowned for its Portuguese colonial architecture and there is a local market in the city selling art and crafts.

Pemba is also the gateway to the Quirimbas National Park and islands as it is the closest major airport and city.
