Sani Pass is the gateway into Lesotho from KwaZulu Natal’s Drakensberg Mountains and is accessed from Underberg and Himeville. The gravel road that winds up the mountain towards Lesotho required a 4WD to negototiate the steep and rocky parts but is now in the process of being tarred. The views below are spectacular and this journey is regarded as an adventure experience.

There is a border post at the top of the Pass and you will require a passport to enter Lesotho. The road from here will lead you to the village of Mokhotlong, passing Sotho tribal settlements and scenic mountain views.

Sani Top Chalets is located near the border post and is a good stopover for those wishing to explore the area and enter Lesotho or as a halfway point on a day trip. They have a restaurant and bar and offer accommodation and activities in the area.
