Nxai Pan National Park is located north of Makgadikgadi Pans National Park and covers an area of 2,500 sq. kms. It is characterised by large open grassy pans surrounded by woodlands that attract a lot of game at certain times of the year depending on the availability of food and water. Nxai Pan National Park provides good sightings of predators such as lion, cheetah and leopard in summer when there is an abundance of grazers and browsers on the pans and during the annual zebra migration.
Roads circle around the many pans and most areas are open and easy to spot game. There is a pumped waterhole near the main gate and many natural waterholes throughout the Park that fill up during the rainy season.
Baines Baobabs is a very popular area to visit within Nxai Pan National Park. Here a cluster of huge baobab trees is surrounded by the massive white, salt-encrusted Kudiakam Pan creating an unusual and very beautiful sight. Baines Baobabs has a special atmosphere and was painted by Thomas Baines in 1863 who called it the “Sleeping Sisters”.
There is a luxury camp inside the Park and several private campsites for Mobile Tented Safaris.
