Madikwe Game Reserve is located in Northwest province close to the Botswana border and is 765 sq.kms in size. The reserve was created in 1991 and 10,000 animals were translocated here in the largest operation of this kind on record. It has an excellent reputation for environmental management and gameviewing is very good, with all the major species of large and small game present.
Madikwe Game Reserve falls within a climatic transition zone on the edge of the Kalahari where crossover species of fauna and flora occur.
There are many luxury lodges within the reserve that offer excellent wildlife experiences.
Pilanesberg Game Reserve is the closest large wildlife reserve to Johannesburg and covers an area of 550 sq.kms. Located about 2.5 hours north of Johannesburg, you will find all the large plains game and predators here and the best possible option for a wildlife experience on a day tour. The reserve is set within an ancient volcano whose rich soils provide nutiritious grazing for an abundance of game.
