Kavango Region including Rundu

Kavango Region
The Kavango Region lies between Owamboland and Caprivi in northern Namibia. The northern border is the Kavango River which is also Namibia’s border with Angola. The Kavango Region is geographically very different to the rest of Namibia as the terrain comprises more woodlands on Kalahari sand and the lush riverine vegetation of the Kavango River along which one finds lodges popular with fishermen and visitors in transit between Botswana, Caprivi and Etosha National Park.
Several good lodges along the Kavango River close to the Botswana border offer accommodation and activities such as birding, fishing, boating, scenic flights and game drives in Mahango Game Reserve and Bwabwata National Park on the other side of the Kavango River. There are many crocodiles and hippos along this stretch of the river and large land mammals can be seen on the opposite bank of the river.

Rundu
Located on the Kavango River, Rundu is the capital of the Kavango Region. The town has many shops, banks and fuel stations and offers a range of accommodation, cultural excursions, good birding and river activities such as fishing and sunset boat cruises.

The Kavango Region can be included on your itinerary if you are travelling from the Western Okavango Delta or Chobe regions in Botswana, or passing en route to or from Caprivi.
